Representation

Hello again! A major part of film and movie making is making sure you have representation within your project, you want to make sure that everyone from all walks of life has at least a little represented within it. Our film, while not focusing on it, has a lot of Hispanic representation within it, and challenges the stereotypes of Superhero's as a whole.

You see, the reason I say that our film has a lot of Hispanic representation, is that all the actors within our project are from Hispanic heritage. Myself, Pedro, Yulian, Jon, and even our special guest Sebastian all are from or have family from different parts in Latin America.

With this fact, that said, we try avoiding any stereotypes that would be associated with Hispanic heritage. Our main reason behind this is that we are trying to tell a coherent and unique story, and we believe that adhering to any stereotypes, weather they are fair or offensive, would do nothing but take away from our projects overall story.

With that said, there is a stereotype that we purposefully challenged within our film and its plot, and that is the stereotyping of Superhero's within films and media. You see, throughout all sorts of media, whether it be movies or comics, Superhero's are shown to be tall, muscular, and a majority of the time, Caucasian.

As a way to subvert these expectations, and challenge these stereotypes by having our Superhero, 'Power'-Man, be anything but what the stereotypes would lead you believe. Instead of being brawny and tall, our hero is stout and stocky. This is done not only as a way to subvert the expectations of the viewers, but also adding more to the comedic side of our film. In the end, I love the way 'Power'-Man turned out, and think that Yulian does an excellent job as the character by not only subverting the audience's expectations, but also challenging the stereotypes that many have grown accustomed to.
