Preparing to Film

Hello again, bloggers! With the filming of our opening scene just around the corner, I thought it would be a good idea to show you all how my group and I are preparing for the big days of filming ahead of us for the intro of: "Super"-Hero!

1. Actors

The Actors in our opening are our group members: Jonathan, Yulian, myself, and Pedro! Each team member, myself included, has appeared and been talked throughout this blog, so they don't need any introduction. Jon is going to be cast as the leader of the robbers breaking into the innocent families home. Fighting off these evil foes is Yulian, who is set to be playing the lead role and hero of the story, Power-Man! I just know that he's up for the task! As for Pedro and I, we are going to be the other two robbers in the opening, helping our boss steal whatever catches our eyes.

2. Costumes

As for costumes, we only need to worry about a couple. Firstly, we need a well-fitted and colorful superhero costume for our protagonist, Yulian, with a cape, mask, and everything in between. As opposed to the image of a superhero costume above, we want the costume to be more generic, so that it matches the goofy and silly personality of the character. I imagine that the robbers will be dressed in a cartoony robber costume as seen above, but that is still up for debate, as some of my group members are instead thinking of making them wear black suits and ties, to add some more character to them, and make them stand out from the generic superhero that is sent to stop them.

3. Props

The opening will feature very basic props. Although I would like to purchase some money bags, it might be best for the robbers to use garbage bags or pillowcases. As for how the robbers will be taking care of the innocent homeowner, we believe that some basic bats would do the trick nicely; of course, they would have to be plastic, like the ones shown above, so that nobody gets hurt during production. Along with this, because we are aiming at making this project reminiscent of a children's show, we think it best if the robbers were to have cartoony weapons such as bats instead of prop guns, as it wouldn't really fit the aesthetic that we are aiming for. Although this may seem like very little props, my group and I don't think that we will be needing much else for filming.

4. Locations

As for the location of the opening, it's actually going to be held in my very own home. Because the opening will be focusing on a house robbery, it was clear to us that it would have to be filmed in one of our homes. My teammates suggested that the location shouldn't be too over the top but should look as if it would be worth a while to robbers looking to make a quick buck. My teammates decided to take it upon themselves to elect my house; although I was against the idea at first, I soon decided that I would be fine with it and agreed to the arrangements. Thankfully, the opening is only set to be filmed in a select few locations of my house, such as the living room, where the main confrontation is set to happen, as well as the outside of the house in the driveway.

5. Dates and Times

Filming of our project is set to happen early January 2025. Although specific dates have not been fully agreed upon, it should be happening between the 10th and the 12th of January. Originally we had planned on filming in December 2024 during Winter Break, but some of our members, such as Pedro, were going on vacation for the holidays, so filming our project in January was our best course of action. Some of my teammates believe that we can film it in just one day, but because of my past experiences when it comes to filming, I believe that it will take more than that. The filming is set to be done near the afternoon so that we can get a good amount of sunlight for the film.

6. Film Equipment

Throughout the past many weeks, we have been offered the opportunity of renting out filming equipment that we could use for our opening; although we are thankful for being given such a great opportunity, my team and I have actually decided against it and have instead decided to film using our own equipment. The majority of the filming will be shot through an iPhone so that we can have the flexibility that we need when making the film, and it also allows us to use technology that we are already used to instead of having to learn how to use all of the fancy equipment. Along with this, not renting of these items means that we don't have to worry about returning anything on time, as we will instead be using our own items.
