Brainstorming
Hello everyone! With the final project being the main concern for my group and I, we thought that now was as a good time as ever to begin brainstorming ideas and concepts for what our final projects narrative and story could be focused on. So, we all joined together and started to put our heads to work, seeing what ideas we could come up with.
Manuel y Linguine
This first concept that our group came up with… Is not the greatest. The short run down is, the film would be a comedy drama focussing on two brothers. You see, these two brother have an embarrassing past, as kids, they would dress up and Mario and Luigi wherever they would go, whether it be in the house, at the mall, or even in the beach.
The catch of he film is, even though it’s a childish game, the brothers still do it, all the way into Their adult lives. The film would follow how one of the brothers, Linguine, is finally maturing, and realizing how childish this tradition truly is. While on the other hand, Manuel is still stuck in the past, insisting that they must keep their silly tradition going.
The more I think about this plot of the story, the more I like the idea, and I think that if executed well, could actually work out as a really fun a light hearted film. However, my concern is that the film doesn't come out the way we want it to, with the film coming out as more cringe and embarrassing than funny and comedic. Along with this I don’t exactly know how we could get adult actors to agree to play in such silly roles; hence why I stated that this idea is our weakest. But have no fear, I think these next two are leagues better.
Superhero Comedy
Next up is a concept that I believe could work much better for our final project. Essentially, the film would be a comedy about a superhero who tries his best to help those in need but fails miserably at his job.
The opening begins with multiple masked men robbing a house when, all of a sudden, a superhero is here to save the day. The robbers would be frozen in fear until they see just how clumsy the superhero really is and just go back to robbing the house of everything it's worth.
At first, I wasn't fully on board with making a superhero comedy, but after hearing the ideas from my fellow teammates, I immediately fell in love with the plan. The filming could be done relatively simply, with the majority of it being filmed indoors in one of our group members' houses. Additionally, I can't stop thinking of all the wacky ways we could spice it up with some cartoony sound effects like what you'd hear in an episode of Looney Tunes to drive home the intro's comedic feel.
However, there is a glaring issue that we would have to focus on avoiding. Superhero comedies aren't the most original idea ever; multiple examples of similar ideas have already been done countless times. I wouldn't be surprised if other teams doing this project have come up with and idea similar to ours. So, if we were to go ahead with this for our final project, we would have to try our best to make it as original and unique as possible to stand out from the crowd.

Stranded in the Forest
This last concept that we came up with is relatively different from all the other ones. Unlike the past ideas we had in mind, this one doesn't have any sort of comedic elements to it and would instead be a horror thriller.
Primarily, the story would follow a person stranded in the woods with no memory of who he is or how he got there. With no clues as to who or what brought them to the strange woods, the intro of this film showcases the protagonist walking aimlessly, trying to find their way out of the big and ominous woods. Along his travels, the protagonist begins to see strange things within the woods, large patterns within craved on the trees, and random clothes and items lying around the grass. Both the view and the protagonist get the uneasy feeling of being watched, but with no signs of someone actually being there, the man has no choice but to press on. Near the end of the intro, the protagonist hears a baby crying from a distance; they begin to run frantically, trying to find the crying infant, until they turn a corner, standing still in a sense of shock when suddenly, the screen cuts to the title of the film.
I absolutely love this concept, and I think it has a lot of creative potential.. With that said, there are some glaring cons to this idea. Firstly, this would have to be filmed in a very thick forest, something we have very little of near the area we live. Along with this, if we want to give the feeling that the protagonist is being watched by something, we would have to figure out elaborate hints that balance being well hidden but noticeable enough to know that not everything is as normal as it seems, which is of course easier said than done. In the end, although we like the idea, it may be too difficult to pull off with our limited time and resources.
